Management Concentrations
All students in the College of
Management have a predetermined major, which is management.
In addition to the major, CM students also complete a concentration
that focuses on a particular area of business. In the College
of Management, students have a choice of six disciplinary-based
concentrations and five interdisciplinary concentrations. Students
can declare a concentration after they have completed 60 credits
and one semester as a degree-seeking student in the College
of Management.
The disciplinary based concentrations involve courses
taken mainly from a single department, and allow students to
specialize in a particular functional area of business. These
disciplinary based concentrations are:
- Accounting (ACC)
- Finance (FIN)
- Management (MGT)
- Marketing (MKT)
- Management Information Systems (MIS)
- Operations Management Science (OMS)
The interdisciplinary concentrations involve courses from two or more
departments. These interdisciplinary concentrations are:
- International Management (INTMGT)
- Information Management for Finance (IM-F)
- Information Management for Marketing (IM-MK)
- Management Science for Finance (MS-F)
- Management Science for Marketing (MS-MK)
International management involves CM courses as well as CLA courses.
The other concentrations span two departments. As a point of clarification,
the two Information Management concentrations are intended for those
interested in either marketing or finance who wish to add to their skill
set the tools needed to gather, store, and manage the information that
these disciplines are based on. The two management science concentrations
involve more emphasis on analysis and decision-making based on financial
or marketing data.
Students are allowed and even encouraged to pursue more than one concentration.
However, no more than two courses from the first concentration can be
used towards the second. If you plan on completing more than one concentration,
please note that you are required to complete both concentrations to
be certified for graduation.
