Considering a transfer into the College of Management (CM)?
F.A.Q.'s about applying to CM as an inter-college transfer
from another College at UMass Boston:
Q. Who is eligible to apply to CM as an inter-college
transfer?
A. You are eligible to apply if:
- You have completed at least 24* total credits (this can include
transfer credit) and
- You have completed at least 12 of the 24 credits at UMass
Boston as a degree seeking student and have received letter
grades for
them. Courses taken for a "pass" grade do not count
for the purpose of evaluation; and
- A minimum grade point average (g.p.a.) of 2.75 from UMass Boston.
* Courses which do not count: All Academic Skills
courses, ESL courses below ESL 101, P.E. activity
courses and Freshman Studies Seminar (OCAS 100)
Q. Is there a minimum g.p.a. required for acceptance
to CM?
A. Yes. The minimum cumulative g.p.a. is 2.75.
The g.p.a. used for evaluation is from UMass Boston coursework
only. Previously attended schools are not considered.
Q. What materials do I need to apply?
A. You need the following to apply to CM as an
inter-college transfer student:
- A completed inter-college transfer application, which is available
at the CM Undergraduate Program Office (M-5-603), The Registrar's
Office (CC 4th floor), the University Advising Center (CC-1-1100)
or the One Stop Center (CC-UL)
- A UMass Boston transcript (unofficial is ok). Please DO
NOT print it from the online WISER system. You can obtain
a copy of your transcript from the Registrar's Office or the
One Stop
Center.
Q. When can I apply and where?
A. The College of Management accepts applications
for transfer on a "rolling" basis.
The application periods are as follows:
- January 1st - March 1st
- June 1st - October 1st
Applications are typically reviewed twice a month, whenever possible. Applications will not be reviewed during the add/drop period at the start of any semester or summer session. Students will receive a letter regarding admission to the College.
Q. I do not meet the requirements to transfer
into the College
of Management. Can I still take courses in CM?
A. Non-management students may take up to 18 credits (6 courses) in the College of Management. Please consult the current University Schedule of Courses for the dates that non-management students are eligible to register.
Non-management students can register for AF 210, AF 301, BC 230, BC 290, MGT 303, MKT 301, MSIS 110, MSIS 212, only, as long as all pre-requisites have been met. Registration for these CM courses must be requested on a Registration
Request Form. This form must be submitted to the College of Management Undergraduate Program Office (M-5-603), where it will be reviewed. If approved, you will be added to the course.
Please note that exceptions to the admission requirements are not made, and exceptions to the limit of 18 credits as a non-management are extremely rare. Students interested in transferring into the College of Management are encouraged to seek regular advising from the University Advising Center.
