MAP Frequently Asked Questions
If I am new to the College of Management, what do I need to do?
You will receive an informative letter in the mail along with a MAP bar-code that you will need to stick to your student ID. Be sure to check out the MAP calendar on the CM website on a regular basis.
My transcript has been updated with transfer credits that I completed before starting in the College of Management. I think this will change my MAP miles requirement. What should I do?
When we determined the number of MAP miles required for each student, we used the information available to us at the start of each student’s first semester. We will gladly update the MAP miles requirement for anyone who has experienced a delay in getting their credits posted.
Once the Admissions Office updates your record, and you see that you do indeed need to earn fewer miles, you just need to let us know. Please send an email to mapcm@umb.edu along with your name and UMS ID number. We will then check your student record and adjust your MAP miles accordingly.
Please note that the MAP miles requirement will only be adjusted for transfer credits that were completed before you started in the College of Management. Transfer credits earned after you start in the College of Management will not change the number of MAP miles you must earn.
Do I need to sign up for MAP events?
Not all of them. Some MAP events will have limited space, so participants will need to hold their sport by emailing mapcm@umb.edu. Be sure to visit the MAP area on the CM website in order to stay informed about MAP events that require an RSVP.
I have looked at the schedule of MAP events, but none of them seem to fit my schedule. What should I do?
Be sure to regularly visit the MAP area on the CM website www.management.umb.edu/undergrad/undergrad_map_schedule.php for an updated listing of MAP opportunities. We are aware of the varying schedules of our students and are striving to add more events that will meet these needs.
How can I get the most out of my MAP experience?
- Take advantage of as many MAP events as possible. The more you develop your professional skills the better off you will be when you graduate. This program is unique to UMass Boston. Everything you learn in MAP will make you more marketable to employers.
- Be an active participant rather than a passive one. When you attend speaker series, apply what the expert is saying to your own life and coursework. Take advantage of the opportunity to talk with the speaker. You never know – s/he might be a connection to your future job!
- Network with guest speakers, College of Management faculty and staff, alumni, and your peers. Everyone around you is a resource with valuable information.
How do I keep track of the miles I have earned and still need?
Each semester, you will receive a letter in the mail that will update you on your progress. If you want an update at a time other than that, or have additional questions, you can email mapcm@umb.edu with your name and UMS ID number or stop by the College of Management and speak with a staff member.
If you have any additional questions, please email mapcm@umb.edu.
